OPTIMIST FLEET
The Boat Museum second installment of the Boat Building Program occurred in Fall 2014. The new project was the construction of Optimist sailboats to be used in the Museum’s Sailing School (hyperlinked) program. The project began with a boat trip for all students to the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York, to visit the “Boatshop” (transportation courtesy of the Gananoque Boat Line).
100 students were involved in the project, which completed 4 Optimist sailboats by June 2015. Five students were hired directly from the school program to work in the Museum’s Boat Shop during the summer, (funds were provided through a grant from Canada Summer Jobs), where they restored skiffs and worked on boat related projects.
